Study unit's learning outcomes

The student is able to:

  • define fundamental organisations’ and society’s preparedness compliance requirements, best practices and apply those
  • define society’s preparedness operators and their roles
  • plan, assess and develop emergency preparedness and create related procedures and guidelines

Content

  • The study unit has a working life development project related to self-preparedness, which is done for the client. The subjects of the assignment are located in the Helsinki metropolitan area and the student groups must visit their destination independently at least once during the study unit.
  • The communication of the course takes place on the Canvas platform. In addition, the Teams channel is used to communicate with the client about project-related issues.
  • Studying the theory related to preparation through contact and video lectures, material in Canvas and assignments, with particular emphasis on the beginning of the study unit and contact sessions. The study unit deals with preparedness, related legislation, self-preparedness and society´s preparedness.
  • The applicable part is implemented as a group project for the customer.

The teaching of the study unit is half as contact lectures on the Leppävaara campus and half at Zoom. The course also has a lot of self-study as well as group work.

All material and assignments for the study unit are compiled on the Canvas learning platform.

Schedule

The course starts on 9.1.2021. at 12.30 with contact lecture. Attendance at lecture is mandatory to receive a place (or absence and receipt of a place must be reported before contact)

The course has two smaller group assignments with return dates of:

  • Module 1 Assignment deadline 23.1.2021
  • Module 2 Assignment deadline 16.2.2021
  • The online exam for the course can be taken on 5.-6.4.2021
  • Project assignment return date 6.5.2021
  • The groups will present their project assignments on 7.5.2021

A failed or non-returned assignment or exam may be retaken twice in accordance with the degree regulations.

Retakes for tasks:

  • Deadline of first retake by 23.5.2021
  • Deadline of second retake by 7.6.2021

Retakes for the exam:

  • First retake 12.-13.4.2021
  • Second retake 26.-27.4.2021

Objectives and emphasis of the evaluation (H-5):

  • Group assignment 1: 10% of the grade
