The aim of the project Caring and Sharing Networks (2013-2015) was to promote the participation of residents in the development of their neighbourhood and to create a networking model for development work with urban actors as well as to create effective means for collaboration between urban actors.

Participatory action research was conducted in collaboration with residents, developers, communities and companies. During the research the data were collected from the developmental issues and networks of the urban actors through interviews and residents’ and community workshops. The data were analyzed with the help of the process of identifying the patterns and themes within qualitative data and with the help of the analytical tools of cultural- historical activity theory.

The project created an Espoo-based suburban development model in which residents are genuinely involved. The vision of the project was a  versatile concept of a residential space that brings together residents and other urban actors, combines residents’ and associations’ activities, culture and innovative employment. Caring and Sharing Networks research project was funded by the Housing Finance and Development Center of Finland and the Ministry of Environment of Finland through the Development Programme for Residential Areas (2013-2015). The research project worked closely with the residential development program of the City of Espoo.
