Laurea University of Applied Sciences and University of Johannesburg are launching multiple co-operation projects
University of Johannesburg, situated in the largest city of South Africa, and Laurea UAS will intensify their collaboration. The University of Johannesburg is a strong, multidisciplinary, scientific university, with close contacts to the work life and also strong involvement in regional development. There are over 50 000 students in the University of Johannesburg. Both academic results and students' progress and employment are world class. The delegation included Vice-Chancellor, professor Ihron Rensburg, Executive Dean (Faculty of Manangement), professor Daneel van Lill, Executive Dean (Health Sciences), professor Andre Swart, Director of the Centre for Small Business Development, Ms Moipone Molotsi and Director for Study Abroad, Mr Lebethe Malefo.
In addition to active student and staff exchange, Laurea and the University of Johannesburg will initiate collaboration in e-learning, in entrepreneurship and innovation related projects as well as in benchmarking of development in the effectiveness of university operations. The visit of the top management delegation from the University of Johannesburg (28 – 30 June) produced already several concrete development ideas from identification of common research areas to improving both the efficiency of university operations and the effectiveness of regional development collaboration.
This collaboration was initiated during a development project funded by TEKES (Connect) by senior lecturer Ritva Jäättelä. The aim of that project was to support the internationalization of Finnish renewable energy SMEs to Africa through co-creation of networks for market entry.
