Students from Dubai learnt about Laurea and Finland

Just before Christmas, Laurea received guests from Dubai as two students from Al Dar University College visited Laurea to learn more about Finland and Laurea during a customised intensive study visit. The theme of the one-week visit was Finnish culture and Design Thinking.

- This is our first visit to Finland – and our first time anywhere this cold; however, it is very beautiful here, said students Eman Magdy Abdelwahab and Ameera Ibrahim, describing their first impressions of Finland.

- Our reception in Laurea has been amazing and all arrangements have run smoothly. This has been a great experience, they go on to say.

In Laurea, the guests could learn more about co-creation and the Design Thinking process in a workshop led by Scientific Director Krista Keränen.

- As a concept, Design Thinking was already familiar to us but the workshop offered us a chance to get a deeper insight into this subject. The workshop content and materials provided us with a great deal of valuable information and the entire study entity here exceeded our expectations, the students say.
- An especially important lesson from the workshop was how important it is to think outside the box – there is no point following ideas that are already on the market, instead you need something completely new.

In addition to studies, Helsinki and Finnish nature and culture were introduced to the guests. They were particularly impressed by Finnish Christmas traditions.
