Partnership between HAMK and Laurea strengthens Finland’s growth corridor.
Häme University of Applied Sciences and Laurea-ammattikorkeakoulu have agreed a strategic partnership with the intention of developing Finland’s growth corridor through education, research and innovation and development. International collaboration is also planned.
The agreement includes integrating vocational doctoral degrees in the operation of universities of applied sciences in cooperation with international partner universities. The focus of vocational doctoral degrees will be matched to the profiles of the Universities of Applied Science.
- The creation of vocational doctoral degrees in Finnish Universities of Applied Science was proposed a long time ago. It seems to be a difficult policy issue for institutions of higher education even though there is certainly demand in professional life for the competences it would bring, and those who have completed advanced degrees from a university of applied science need a vocational progression path. That is why we decided with Häme University of Applied Sciences to implement this in collaboration with international partner universities, explains Laurea’s President, Jouni Koski.
HAMK and Laurea will start to engage in joint research and development work particularly in the fields of smart services, security and sustainable development. The start will be to build a strategic research programme, and applications will be made for international and national funding to realise this programme. Innovation programmes will be developed with people and companies in the area in order to increase the vitality of the growth corridor.
- The areas selected for joint research and development are the important fields from the perspective of the growth corridor which also match the profiles of both Laurea and HAMK, explained HAMK’s President, Pertti Puusaari.
