Haanpää, who graduated with a Bachelor of Social Services degree in 2006, was involved in launching alumni activities at Laurea
Miia Haanpää, Bachelor of Social Services, has been chosen as Laurea Alumna of the Year 2017. The prize was announced and presented to Haanpää at Laurea's traditional Grand Alumni Evening in Helsinki on Tuesday, 16 May.
Miia Haanpää graduated from Laurea with a Bachelor of Social Sciences degree in 2006. She has long been working in the field of trade unions and at the moment is a trade union specialist at TEHY, The Union of Health and Social Care Professionals in Finland. She has later graduated from HUMAK Master's Degree Programme as a Community Educator .
In the justifications for the Alumna of the Year prize, Haanpää was praised especially for her contribution to the launching of alumni activities at Laurea. She was one of the founding members of Laurea Alumni, which began to develop the activities. Haanpää has also actively given lectures to Laurea's students on different campuses.

- In my opinion, Alumni's most important role is to be mentors - to be there to support current students. When I was a student, if found it very important to be able to get advice and tips from people who were already working.
