Laurea students take part in the Night of the Homeless

The Social Services degree 1st year students implement the event of Night of the Homeless in Helsinki together with the network of several Non-governmental Organizations, the main partner being Vailla Vakinaista Asuntoa (VVA) ry.  Our group of 33 students consists of degree students, exchange students and open university students from many different nationalities. The implementation of the event is part of the Well-being and Social Exclusion study unit (10cr).

The event will take place between 17th - 18th October from 2pm till 6am. The main venues will be at Vaasasquare (commonly known as "Piritori") and in Dallapé park.  The students will set up a "Cosy Corner" at the Dallapé park, where hot beverages (coffee and tea), waffles, sandwiches and sweeties  will be provided for the homeless. A movie with popcorn and blankets will be played and warm clothes be distributed to the needy. Two tents will be furnished as bedrooms. A information sheet will be provided to the refugees about the facts how to start a new life in Finland. The students will also help out generally other organizers of the event e.g. in putting up tents and  cleaning the premises.
