The first ever New Student Enterprise of the Year – Laurea StartUp 2014 award was presented to Circular Devices Ltd. founded by Laurea Facility management student Alejandro Santacreu. The company develops a modular smartphone called PuzzlePhone.
PuzzlePhone is based on the idea of three switchable basic modules: screen, processor and battery. That way, the smartphone’s features and processing power can be improved and upgraded for different purposes without having to buy a new phone. Similarly, a damaged screen or battery can be replaced with a new module when necessary.
The purpose of the competition was to reward the best new enterprise which has been agile and successful in acquiring or developing customer relationships and financing. All student-based enterprises established in 2014 with at least one of the team members being a student of Laurea at the time of the establishment were able to take part in the competition.
The New Student Enterprise of the Year – Laurea StartUp 2014 winner was selected by experts of Laurea, Spinno Enterprise Center and our partners. The award ceremony was held in Espoo on 31st March.
