Enhancing common understanding on the EU Security and Defense architecture through CSDP orientation course


​53 participants from 17 EU and partnership countries participated at the CSDP orientation course organized in Vienna 11 – 15 December. This course was part of European Security and Defence College support to the Eastern neighborhood, EaP, partnership programme and hosted by Austrian Ministry of Defence and Sports. The CSDP Orientation Course is a major component of the ESDC training activities with the aim to develop and promote a broad understanding of Common Security and Defence Policy (CSDP) as an integral part of the Common Foreign and Security Policy (CFSP) of the European Union. .

ESDC training manager Dr Jochen Rehl has played a key role in developing and implementing training programmes for EU partnership. This course was also his 50th orientation course, which is a remarkable and record in the history of ESDC.

Laurea UAS has been the member of the ESDC Network, consisting of 130 training, education and research institutions from all EU member States, since 2015, and the membership has benefitted Laurea expertise development and research projects in various ways. This time Laurea and FINCENT contributed orientation course instructor team with experts providing insights on civilian capability development, integrated approach to respond conflicts and crises as well as countering the hybrid threats. Lessons from IECEU project were also shared enabling the course participants to gain a deeper understanding of some of the key challenges related to CSDP missions and operations.
