Social Services Degree student group arrived from China
Social Services Degree student group arrived from China this autumn and started their preparatory bridge studies in October at Laurea Tikkurila.
Laurea Tikkurila unit is the new home base for our latest Social Services Degree student group that arrived from China this autumn and started their preparatory bridge studies in October at Laurea.
These very brave and enthusiastic students have arrived in Finland with their families and children, and they will stay in Finland, study and work here after their graduation. Their studies are focused on early childhood education, and before starting their Degree studies, they first get to know Finnish language and culture and learn more about studying in English, especially Social Services and early childhood education.
As everything is very new to them, a family picnic event was arranged at Tikkurila campus for the students and their families to get to know the school premises, each other and the daily student life. Also, Finnish festivals and Finnish customs were discussed. And of course, there were many wonderful Chinese and Finnish delicacies available.
This event was much appreciated by the Chinese students. For example, Xiaofei Liu (Vanessa), Cathy Wang and Lu Peng thanked for the event and commented:
- Yesterday afternoon, my family and I had a wonderful time with all of you. We also learned a lot about Finland.
During the autumn, the students will also participate in Erasmus+ project DISC that is co-ordinated by Laurea and that focuses on enhancing immigrants' digital skills for active citizenship. One of the good practices applied in this project is Laurea's Multisensory Space method that will also be used with the Chinese students as a way to support their integration but also teach us at Laurea more about Chinese culture and Chinese identity.
