On 5-9th March Laurea Tikkurila’s International week brought together Laurea’s students and International Cooperation Partners from higher education and working life from the field of Social and Correctional Services, Business, Health Care and Beauty and Cosmetics. This year’s theme was Active Ageing, Customer Innovations and Global responsibility in connection with the European Year of Active Ageing 2012.
Several workshops and seminars dealt the theme from different aspects. Senior training, ageing and the impact what ageing has for beauty and product development where widely presented during the week. Active ageing was also highlighted in the presentations for correctional services students, where Jim Hilborn, founder of Baltic Crime Prevention Practitioners Association, presented his topic “On being Old, Healthy and in Prison”. On International women’s day, women’s situation was highlighted on Prof. PhD (c) Mary Dahl Maher’s presentation “Weaving a Global Story to Support Culture Care” and on PhD Marjut Jyrkinen’s presentation “Women managers, Gender and Age”. During the week student also got to know exchange possibilities. They heard about experiences from all over the world and how the everyday life was during the exchange semester compared to Laurea and to Finland.
In addition to these presentations students arranged many activities like poster exhibition, music and photo performances. Students worked also as conference assistants during the whole week.
The tradition of International Week started in year 2000 and has created many cooperation projects. In addition to international networking and learning, the week aims to present, promote and discuss the current themes of active ageing, customer innovations and global responsibility within Social Services, Health Care, Beauty and Cosmetics as well as Business Studies.
