Graduation ceremony at Laurea

Laurea’s graduation ceremony was organized on Monday the 19th of December 2011.  More than 300 people – graduating students, their families and Laurea staff - attended the ceremony. The students’ central role in research, development and innovation activities Laurea is very special.  According to the Finnish Ministry of Education and Culture Laurea is leading the statistics regarding the study credits acquired in R&D –projects. This is proof of the students’ central role and importance in enhancing and developing society, business and the higher education institution itself.

A transatlantic Dual Degree Programme in Nursing (TCN) is the first dual degree programme in nursing in Europe and in the USA. Two students from Laurea and four from Semmelweis University (Hungary) were given their degree certificates (Bachelor of Nursing) in the ceremony.

The certificates were given by  Dr. Judit Mészáros and Dr. Sandor Hollós from Semmelweis University from Hungary, Dr Marie O´Toole representing American Nazareth College (Rochester/NY), Laurea’s President Jaakko Tarkkanen and Director Taina Viiala from Laurea Tikkurila Campus. 21 nurses in total have got their degrees from this programme, 10 of them from Laurea.  The degree gives them the qualification to work as nurses in all European countries and in the USA.
